PS: For those of you collecting 8 bar scraps of the starngest things I've composed...set your VCRs and Tivos. Its definitely a "Sharkskin" vibe because the band is Sharkskin with horns. If you wonder why we're playing poorly..its fucking cold in there.
My favourite author. A rich feast of food for thought.

Have fun and work from where things have to come from. I have experimented with being hip and it doesn't work for me in the end. Way too much work because its an external set of rules and symbols. I can't work the calendar...how can I keep track of fashion. Retro cool perhaps has the simplest roadmap but I can't stay any place too long.
Don says, "Writing is a form of personal freedom. It frees us from the mass identity we see in the making all around us. In the end, writers will write not to be outlaw heroes of some underculture but mainly to save themselves, to survive as individuals."
I buy that all the way.
That's what happened to us last night. The right songs. The right venue. The right peeps. I think my head almost popped off with all the fun. That's what it feels like today anyway. Spirit of the West had the folks jumping after us and it was a great night all around. Dave Ashman happened to come all the way out to Vancouver and see the gig. He's regularly from the DC/Maryland area. That combination of band members, just the three, really gives us a sense of space. We then rush to fill that space with loud amps and smashing cymbals. No harm in that. Local gigs allow us to drag out the vintage gear that is now too valuable and fragile to take on the road. I wonder if Pat likes it when I stand on the kick drum of his early 60's Ludwigs and leap off. I wonder if he likes when I kick his old cymbals. I wonder... and then I smile to myself and move on.
Many thanks to House of Blues, Byron Lonneberg, Brian Gibney, Justin Sudds and the Spirit of the West guys for making the "CN Power Trio" ride again.
Set list:
Make You Mad
Not a Lot' Goin On

Write It In Lightning
Give Up & Go Away
Leaders of the Undersea World
I Can't Get You Off My Mind

Someone Who's Cool
Shit ...I forgot to do all the internet stuff regarding a gig we have on Thursday night. Hope a few of you locals can come. The Craig Northey Power Trio (me, Doug Elliott & Pat Steward) will be opening for Spirit of the West at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom this Thursday the 16th of March.
Here's a link to all the info from House of Blues Concerts...you can buy tickets here too.
Tim "the Finger" Der has updated his Craig site and I think he's done a great job. All the pictures on the site shuffle through at random if you hit the refresh button. His video section is unequaled in its obscurities. I'm glad there are a couple of people archiving this stuff because I tend to let it go by. Its fun to look at, or listen to, much later. If anybody figures out how to archive the streaming video for the "Strippers Union @ the Orange Lounge" stuff on MSN then let me know.

Hey Canadians,
You get first crack. The Northey Valenzuela CD was released tuesday to stores all across your vast land. It is on "True North/Universal" and features a few differences to the short lived "indie" release -- better graphics, new mastering (better sound) and two new songs ("Bulletproof Jacket" & "She Belongs"). It will be appearing in U.S. stores in mid March on the "Fuel/Universal" label.
Thanks to all who attended out US east performances and special thanks to Darryl Icard for tour managing and playing bass.
