Hyperion. Where we met.

Description:

This is the apartment on Hyperion Ave in Los Angeles' Silver Lake district where the Odds would sleep on their friend Tom DeSavia's floor. They spent a lot of time here over the course of their regular LA gigs "in search of being found". Early on they shared that floor with the Gin Blossoms and Jesse and Craig would stay up late listening to Tom's huge record collection. Tom also invited Chris Blake (Odds manager) over to this apartment to meet the boys. Odds met cohorts Toad the Wet Sprocket, 3 Day Wheelie and original A&R man Bud Scoppa here as well. The apartment was handed down from Peter Case to Marvin Etzioni (Lone Justice...who also became a friend and produced a version of an Odds song that was never released). Jesse & Craig went back here to take the photos because their imaginations are limited and these nostalgic notions are a failsafe bet. It was doubly obvious that Chris Blake should take the photos since he was driving down from Santa Barbara on that day to see the lecture by the guy who cut off his own arm to save his life and Chris happened fortuitously to be a photo school drop-out. This fits with the Northey Valenzuela philosophy, "rusty chops and a good attitude will get you at least to the middle". Chris did a splendid job and proved to his old professors that he knows his sh@#t.

Woah. I used to live around there. I should have hung out around there more so I could see a couple of rock stars...then again maybe I would have been 8 years old or so and wouldn't have cared. Then again I heard that Jesse lived (still?) in the San Fernado Valley (where I live now) and I didn't see him around either. I guess I'm just not the stalking type.
